Rory Fraser Lake Halifax

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Rory spent much of his childhood in Muscat, Oman, where he developed a lifelong connection to nature through snorkeling, fishing, and sailing with his parents and siblings. His international upbringing shaped his adventurous spirit and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Rory’s journey into arboriculture began in 2014, when he joined Woodpecker Tree Care Ltd. after leaving his role as an elementary school librarian in Oman. What began as a career shift soon became a passion. Known for his chipper attitude, attention to detail, and dedication to safety, Rory quickly grew into one of the most respected members of his field. In 2016, he earned his ISA Certified Tree Worker — Climber Specialist credential and became an ISA-certified arborist, admired for his skill and courage in the trees.

Beyond his work, Rory was deeply committed to his community. He volunteered regularly at the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Atlantic Chapter Tree Climbing Competition, where his enthusiasm and expertise inspired both peers and newcomers. Colleagues remember him not only as a first-rate climber but also as someone who handled customer service with warmth and genuine care.

In his personal life, Rory was happiest with his family. He shared a loving partnership with his wife Katrine, whom he described as a superstar teacher and source of endless support. Together, they built a home in Sackville, New Brunswick, where they raised their two children, Isla and Rowan. To them, their father’s unique career seemed perfectly ordinary — just “Dad climbing trees.”

When not at work, Rory could be found playing ultimate frisbee, enjoying time outdoors with his children, or visiting his parents at Sherbrooke Lake, Nova Scotia. His smile, his energy, and his love for life will remain with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rory leaves behind his beloved wife Katrine, their children Isla and Rowan, his parents, siblings, extended family, colleagues, and countless friends whose lives he touched.

A celebration of Rory’s life will be announced at a later date, where his community will gather to honor the man who climbed high, loved deeply, and lived fully.
